how to floss

Flossing is an important part of oral hygiene and helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth where a toothbrush cannot reach. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to properly floss your teeth:

  1. Cut off 18-24 inches of dental floss and wind most of it around the middle finger of one hand.
  2. Hold the floss tightly between your thumb and index finger of the other hand.
  3. Gently guide the floss between your teeth using a back-and-forth motion, being careful not to snap the floss against your gums.
  4. Curving the floss around the base of each tooth, move the floss up and down against the tooth to clean the sides of the tooth.
  5. Use clean sections of floss as you move from tooth to tooth.
  6. Remember to floss the back of your last tooth as well.
  7. Once you are done flossing, gently brush your teeth to remove any remaining plaque or debris.

It’s important to floss at least once a day, preferably before brushing your teeth at night. It may take some time to get used to flossing and to learn the proper technique. Be patient and consistent, and it will become a habit. If you have any questions or concerns about flossing, consult your dentist or dental hygienist.
